The OED tells us the Latin words for book, "liber," and "library," are derived "from the bark of trees used in early times as a writing material." The words "page/leaf," "folio/foliage," and "litter" also have etymological roots in trees. This Sugar Maple sapling was threaded through a circular opening, cut into a digital print, and set into a temporary frame. The growing Maple will ultimately absorb the page into its trunk. Simultaneously, the paper will gradually decompose as it is exposed to natural phenomena. After the girth of the tree takes hold of the print, the frame will be removed.
